“There’s a ton of interest” from developers for FSR 4 implementation, says AMD

AMD’s latest upscaling technology, FSR 4, has been a major highlight of the new RX 9070 series GPUs, and as an RDNA 4-exclusive feature, it has outperformed all previous FSR versions and put up strong competition against Nvidia’s alternatives. While it isn’t quite as capable as the green team’s DLSS 4 technology, this marks the first time AMD has integrated AI into the equation, suggesting that the performance gap could narrow even further in the near future.
Currently, FSR 4 is supported in over 30 games, including popular titles like Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. However, AMD expects many more to adopt it soon, as the improvements over previous iterations have generated a “ton of interest.” We already know that upcoming titles like The Last of Us Part II will support FSR 4 at launch, but now, we can confirm that even more are in the pipeline. AMD says over 75 games will feature FSR 4 by the end of 2025.
Upcoming blockbusters will feature FSR 4, says AMD’s David McAfee
According to AMD’s Corporate VP and General Manager, David McAfee, the company is working hard to ensure that upcoming blockbuster games launch with FSR 4 support. He also noted that thanks to AMD’s ties in the console world, carrying over these partnerships into the Radeon world has allowed the company to expand its reach and collaborate with game developers all over the world.
This is good news, especially since one of the main criticisms AMD has faced is the limited early support for FSR 4-supported titles as games like Black Myth: Wukong, which are notorious for poor FSR implementation, are nowhere on the list. In comparison, Nvidia’s DLSS 4 technology launched with support for 75 games and has already confirmed many more arriving later this year.
“Developer adoption is very strong. There is a ton of interest, I think that when you look across our game ecosystem, the partnerships that we have, carrying over from the console world in to the Radeon world gives us very broad reach in terms of our ability to interact with game developers and provide a set of capabilities to those studios. We’re around the world with game developers, regardless of where they’re located, we are working very hard to make sure the next blockbusters that come out are enabled with FSR 4 technology, because we think it’s just such a significant improvement to the gameplay experience that we want it to be everywhere”
David McAfee, Corporate VP and General Manager, Client Channel Business at AMD
AMD is more confident in FSR 4 than ever before with previous FSR iterations, actively bringing it to the table for major game developers. And there is good reason behind that confidence. In fact, we recently saw an FSR 4 mod that allows players to test its capabilities in unsupported games like Cyberpunk 2077, and the results were shocking.
Even a modded implementation of FSR 4 was producing visual quality miles ahead of in-game-supported FSR technologies like FSR 3 or FSR 3.1. So, you can imagine the visual enhancements we can expect in officially supported FSR 4 titles.
