The AMD Ryzen 9 9900X is now on sale on Amazon for a modest 15% discount, thanks to Prime Day, this comes just months after the release of Zen 5 which was met with less than favorable reviews, including our own Ryzen 9 9900X review. Thankfully, a lot of the issues leading to poor reviews have now been fixed, resulting in powerful processors fit to blow the latest Intel CPUs out of the water.

The 9000 series Zen 5 CPUs offer IPC improvements of around 16%, resulting in blisteringly fast single-core performance. It was the Ryzen 9000 series that finally got me to upgrade from my 5000 series system, I just couldn’t resist the performance gains. if you’re upgrading from Zen 3 or earlier, the difference is night and day. The 9900X has 12 cores and 24 threads to work with, making it ideal for not only gaming workloads but multi-threaded tasks too.

The Ryzen 9 9900X may require a new motherboard and faster DDR5 memory if you’re upgrading from Intel or a lesser AMD generation, but the upgrade is well worth the hassle. Remember how I said I upgraded from AM4 to the 9700X? well, my gaming experience got a whole lot smoother, especially in games where I was CPU-bound. AMD has always made your investments worthwhile and engrained longevity into its products, I see no reason why it’s not the same story here.
