It goes without saying that Valve’s Steam Deck has been a massive success. It spearheaded the gaming PC handheld market and has seen many ‘copycat’ devices since. It remains highly regarded, despite plenty of competition on the market these days from the likes of the ASUS ROG Ally, Legion Go, and MSI Claw.

One of the benefits Valve has over its rivals is the introduction of an OLED model, one which has been particularly popular thanks to an upgraded panel, higher 90Hz refresh rate, and longer battery life. And now, there’s a chance that Valve will begin selling refurbished models – presumedly for cheaper, just like it did with the original LCD ones.

Steam Deck OLED might get the Valve Certified Refurbished treatment

News of refurbished OLED Decks comes courtesy of a post on X from Bradley Lynch, a well-known leaker of anything Valve or Steam (they recently provided a closer look at the upcoming Steam Controller 2). According to the post, sourced from SteamDB, two new packages have been linked to the Refurbished Steam Deck Application in the database – previously, only the existing Refurbished Steam Deck LCD packages were linked to the app.

A trio of the original LCD models got the ‘Certified Refurbished’ treatment; the 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB devices went on sale for $279, $319, and $359 respectively. Compared to their launch prices, this represented a significant price drop and was overall a fantastic deal considering Valve promised the devices were “thoroughly tested to the same high standards as our retail units” and “meet or even exceed the performance standards of new retail units” despite the chance of “minor cosmetic blemishes.”

Stock levels for the current refurb Steam Decks are pretty dire and feel non-existent at times, though this is likely a positive sign that not many people are having problems with them. Availability certainly depends on your region, though we noticed that all three current models are out of stock in the UK.

With the potential for refurbished OLED models in the future, it could finally make getting one of them more cost-effective. So far, we haven’t seen any discounts on these more premium variants. In fact, Valve recently launched a limited edition white Steam Deck OLED which fans rushed to buy at $679 USD.
