Xbox Series X25 revealed alongside “exclusive” Gears of War E-Day and Clockwork Revolution, but they’re still coming to PC

Xbox has unveiled a new anniversary console, the Xbox Series X25, celebrating 25 years since the release of the original Xbox. The new X25 model features the ‘translucent OG Green’ that some editions of the 2001 console were known for. Yesterday’s Xbox Games Showcase also gave us a closer look at Gears of War: E-Day, which launches as an “Xbox console exclusive”.
E-Day is joined by Clockwork Revolution, an upcoming steampunk-themed first-person RPG from inXile Entertainment. Although the “Xbox console exclusive” line suggests they won’t be available elsewhere, we can now confirm that both titles will also be released on PC. Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution both have Steam pages in place.
Xbox Series X25 arrives this November
There hasn’t been an exact release date for the Xbox Series X25, though it will officially arrive “in select markets in November” – the translucent green controller will be sold separately. Since the original Xbox launched (in the US) on November 25, 2001, we may be able to expect a similar timeframe for the limited-edition 25th anniversary model.

During FanFest – which ran alongside Xbox Games Showcase – attendees with a Fan pass (which excludes Media and Industry) reacted with cheers after they were told they’d be getting the X25 as a gift for attending. The anniversary Xbox comes shortly after the ROG Xbox Ally X20 announcement at Computex last week, which celebrates 20 years of the ROG brand.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has been pushing for “the return of Xbox” since her introduction in February. Exclusivity for Gears of War E-Day and Clockwork Revolution represents a shift in Xbox’s plans, especially after Gears of War: Reloaded made it to the PlayStation 5 in August last year – though Halo: Campaign Evolved will still be arriving on PS5 this July.
As part of our focus on the return of XBOX, we also announced that Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will be XBOX console exclusives. These are not timed exclusives. Games already announced for multiplatform releases will stick to that plan – we’re committed to investing in and growing XBOX both on console and beyond.

E-Day and Clockwork Revolution are planned to never be available on PlayStation – in Xbox’s words, they are not “timed exclusives”. This refers to the fact that many console exclusives eventually make their way to another platform. That’s exactly what Sony was doing with its PC ports, but even these have been canned – at least for its first-party single-player catalog.
