Apple’s latest product launch event took place yesterday (October 28). Known as the ‘Pro and Tell’ event, it came with a handful of new tech to explore, including the very first touchscreen MacBook. It’s called the MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, and it’s already available to pre-order in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, powered by M5 Pro or M5 Max. Its full availability date won’t arrive until early next month.

Earlier in the week, Apple already treated us to a new M6 iMac, alongside the first iPad mini with OLED and the 14-inch MacBook Pro M6, the first of Apple’s popular laptops to be upgraded to the latest-gen M6 chip. As mentioned already, the new touchscreen MacBook is sticking to the M5 series, albeit with the higher-core M5 Pro and M5 Max models to choose from.

MacBook Pro PROLED XDR release date & where to pre order one

Pre-orders for the touchscreen are now live. In the United States, they can be found (of course) at the official Apple Store, but you can also order yours through B&H or Best Buy, if you prefer.

As for the release date, Apple lists it as November 6. That means we’re only a week away from seeing them in-store, assuming the tech giant has sufficient stock in our/your region. The recently released iPhone Duo has suffered from shortages due to high demand, so we’ll have to wait and see how the MacBook Pro PROLED XDR fares (we don’t expect demand to be quite as high).

MacBook Pro PROLED XDR specifications

The brand-new MacBook Pro is more than just a touchscreen upgrade. The tandem OLED display helps slim it down to a “thinner, lighter design” with up to 24 hours of battery life. For example, the new 14-inch model weighs just 1.38kg, while last year’s 14-inch M5 MacBook Pro weighed in at 1.55kg. Johny Srouji, Apple’s chief hardware officer, says, “PROLED XDR is the world’s best laptop display” in the company’s official press release, combining a state-of-the-art OLED panel with Apple’s display engine.

How much does the touchscreen MacBook cost?

As always with Apple hardware, there’s a good amount of customization available when you make your order. Besides choosing between 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, you also have to account for the chip (with different core counts available), whether you want Nano-texture glass to reduce glare, along with the usual memory and storage options. Additionally, extra costs are involved if you want to upgrade the charger from 70W to 96W (+$20), while the keyboard language can be altered free of charge.

In any case, below are the starting prices for the key variants in the United States (USD), the United Kingdom (GBP), and Canada (CAD).
