Your gaming PC can apparently be too good for God of War Ragnarok, so cap your FPS

God of War Ragnarok might be available on PC now but it might not have been ported correctly.

God of War Ragnarok was released on PC and has gotten off to a decent start. It is one of the top-selling games right now on Steam, and according to SteamDB, it had a peak player count of 22,967. It isn’t anything crazy like what we witnessed with Black Myth: Wukong, likely because Ragnarok has been out for two years on PS5 and PS4 and was recently ported over to PC.

Overall, it seems to be a very successful port with solid performance – something Nvidia enjoyed showing off in its benchmarks in time for launch. However, as has been the case with other console games over the years coming to PC, things can act a little strangely when you have a ridiculously high framerate.

GOW Ragnarok can’t handle the power of PC

A post on r/GodofWarRagnarok was made by u/CPAtriox showcasing a video clip from a cutscene in the game. We’re not sure how much FPS they were getting as it wasn’t displayed on-screen, but comments would suggest 240 FPS (for a 240Hz monitor). Either way, there seems to be some kind of threshold, and if you cross that, the game’s physics can break in a rather hilarious manner or has the potential to.

In the cutscene, Kratos is on a sled moving away from Freya, and an ice storm forms behind them, prompting Kratos to command the wolves pulling the sled to move faster. This is the point where the game breaks as the wolves speed off into the distance, and Kratos and his son are left behind while still seemingly assuming their positions as if they are still in the sled.

As always, the comment section was filled with innovative and hilarious comments, my favorite being from u/GamerNerd-CD.

Kratos: FASTER!

Ateus: HURRYHURRYHURRY

Speki and Svanna: And we took that literally

We’d recommend capping your FPS

If you want a seamless gameplay experience, we recommend capping your FPS through software or in-game settings. There is a setting labeled ‘Frame Rate Limit’ – you’ll want to toggle this on and select your preference. On the PlayStation 5, God of War Ragnarok targets a locked frame rate of 60 FPS, though if you’re playing on PC we’d suggest targeting something such as 120 or 144 FPS if the game remains stable, especially if you have a high refresh rate monitor.

These issues may be resolved with hotfixes and other patches. Until then, follow our graphic settings guide for God of War Ragnarok, limit your FPS, and enjoy fighting Gods. If you’re interested in exploring other options, check out our best gaming laptop and GPU for GOW Ragnarok.
