How to fix stuttering, freezing, and FPS drop issues in Black Ops 6 on PC

In some cases, the problem will go away on its own after you restart the game or your PC. But if this simple fix doesn’t work, feel free to proceed with the methods mentioned below.

Step

1

Update your GPU and CPU drivers

Nvidia, Intel, and AMD release new driver updates for their GPUs and CPUs from time to time. These updates are meant to make the hardware compatible with the latest games. Without installing them, you’ll continue to face different issues, including FPS drop and stuttering.

So, head over to the official website of Nvidia, Intel, and AMD, and download the latest version of the drivers from there.

Step

2

Lower the in-game graphics settings

These issues can also appear if you are trying to run Black Ops 6 at settings higher than what your GPU or CPU can handle. For instance, if you have a GTX 1060 installed in your rig, you can’t expect to run the game at 1440p with everything set to Ultra. This will just overburden the GPU and cause performance issues.

So, go to the in-game graphics settings and adjust them according to your GPU. You can refer to our Black Ops 6 best PC settings guide for max FPS in case you’re confused about how to tweak them.

Step

3

Set the Texture Resolution to low and use Fullscreen Exclusive mode

In some cases, Black Ops 6 keeps stuttering only because of one setting: Texture Resolution. This setting basically affects the quality and performance of the in-game 3D models. Keeping it set to normal or higher can often cause different issues, so try bringing it down to low or very low to see if that fixes the problem.

Also, when you first launch Black Ops 6, it might be set to Fullscreen Borderless mode. This often causes stuttering, freezing, and FPS drop issues. To fix this, simply go to the in-game display settings and change it to ‘Fullscreen Exclusive’ mode.

Step

4

Close background applications

If you have multiple applications, especially demanding software, running in the background while playing Black Ops 6, then you’re bound to run into stuttering and FPS drop issues. This is because your system will have to divide the resources among multiple applications, preventing Black Ops 6 from getting what it needs to operate smoothly.

So, launch the Task Manager, find unnecessary applications, and close them down.

Step

5

Check for overheating

If any of your components, especially the GPU or CPU, are overheating, Black Ops 6 will continue to stutter, or worse, crash. We recommend using a tool like HWiNFO to monitor the temperature of the components. If the temps are above the safe levels while you’re playing Black Ops 6, close the game immediately.

Then, take the necessary steps to prevent the components from overheating. This includes cleaning your PC, replacing the thermal paste of your CPU and GPU, and scanning and removing malware from your system.

After you’re done following the methods mentioned in our guide, Black Ops 6 will hopefully stop freezing and stuttering on your PC. However, if nothing seems to work, then you might need to reinstall the game.
