AMD Ryzen 9000G release date estimate, specs and price rumors

Table of Contents
The AMD Ryzen 9000G release date is not confirmed; in fact, the Red Team hasn’t even admitted the existence of such a range of processors. However, there’s a fair amount of leaked and rumored information that can probably give us a good idea about when to expect them.
Like the 8000G series before them, the Ryzen 9000G series is thought to be a range of desktop processors with powerful integrated graphics (formerly known as APUs by AMD), as distinct from the Ryzen 9000F range, which comes without the integrated graphics. You can read our best Ryzen APU page for more info.
Most recently, Gigabyte seems to have accidentally listed the Ryzen 9000 G-series CPU on their site on a page showing a Memory support list (and at the time of writing, they haven’t taken it down). This would certainly indicate that the new range is imminent, but when should we expect to see it, how much will it cost, and what specs will it have? Read below for the latest leaks, info, and predictions.
Ryzen 9000G release date window estimate
Although the leak from Gigabyte doesn’t give us much idea of a likely Ryzen 9000G release date, we can reasonably assume that some time this year at least will be likely. The Ryzen 8000G series was released on the 31st of January 2024, however, most people are pretty convinced that this is when AMD will be focusing on their Zen 6 releases on brand new tech, which makes a Ryzen 9000G series release around this period less likely.
Besides this, noted tech commenter HXL has commented (though without much certainty) that Q4 2025 could be a likely release window. This seems a fairly likely time window to us.
AMD Ryzen 9000G specs rumors
As you’d expect, given it hasn’t been officially announced, there’s no official specification information available regarding the Ryzen 9000G, but the general consensus is that it will be based on the same Zen 5 tech as some of the latest AI 300 series of laptop processors from AMD. Specifically, leakers like InstLatX64, as well as well-known tech site Videocardz, both point to it likely being the revamped Strix Point chip, which will apparently be called ‘Gorgon Point’, There’s a chance it could also just be the original Strix Point mobile chip, modified for desktop use.
AMD Ryzen APU series | Codename | CPU architecture | iGPU architecture | Year of release |
Ryzen 9000G | Strix Point/Gorgon Point (predicted) | Zen 5 (predicted) | RDNA 3.5 (predicted) | RDNA 3.5 (predicted) |
Ryzen 8000G | Phoenix | Zen 4 | RDNA 3 | 2024 |
Ryzen 5000G | Cezanne | Zen 3 | Vega | 2021 |
Ryzen 4000G | Renoir | Zen 2 | Vega | 2020 |
Ryzen 3000G | Picasso | Zen + | Vega | 2019 |
Ryzen 2000G | Raven Ridge | Zen 4 | Vega | 2018 |
Either way, both will use the same Zen5 CPU architecture and RDNA 3.5 iGPU architecture, which is the next generation of the tech previously used in the 8000G series (see the table above for a generational comparison). According to TechPowerUp, AMD’s presentation on the new Gorgon Point tech to its ‘industry partners’ was apparently leaked online. This shows that the new Gorgon chips are operating with the same core tech as the Strix ones, but have increased performance/clock speeds.

We do not know what SKUs will be within the Ryzen 9000G series, but we can assume we’re likely to see a 9700G, 9600G, and 9500G in line with the previous generation. it could be that we see a Ryzen 9 9900G version, as the pictures above clearly indicate there will be a mobile variant at least, but we’ll have to wait and see.
AMD Ryzen 9000G price predictions
Unsurprisingly, given that the details of these new APUs are slim on the ground, there has been no confirmed information as to the AMD Ryzen 9000G pricing. It seems reasonable to estimate, however, that the new range will retail for around the same prices that the 8000G series did upon their release, particularly given the latter has now dropped in price across online retailers.
See below for our predictions on what we think the SKUs of these new processors will go for.
Previous gen SKUs | Price on release | Current price | Next gen predicted SKUs | Predicted MSRP on release |
Ryzen 7 8700G | $329 | $295 | Ryzen 7 9700G | $329 |
Ryzen 5 8600G | $229 | $180 | Ryzen 5 9600G | $229 |
Ryzen 5 8500G | $179 | $155 | Ryzen 5 9500G | $179 |
Will we see Strix Halo APUs on desktop?
There’s been no indication or leaks to suggest that Strix Halo APUs will be a thing on desktop, even though many would like to see these more powerful 16-core processors available. The standard Strix point or Gorgon point chips currently seem much more likely.
Will the Ryzen 9000G be worth buying?
Upon release, the integrated graphics on the 8000G series of APUs were a decent option for those looking for a PC capable of light gaming, productivity, and content creation, that could work out roughly $100-200 cheaper than buying a dedicated graphics card with a CPU of the same power. Although we won’t know for sure how the Ryzen 9000G range will perform until we get our hands on them, we can probably expect a similar price/performance proposition.
