Despite some expectation that the Ryzen 9000G series would be shown at Computex, AMD remained quiet on the subject of its upcoming Strix Point APU Refresh. However, a leak from one of AMD's board partners has provided a few clues on an upcoming launch.

The APU, or Accelerated Processing Unit, was a term created by AMD in 2011 to describe processors that came with integrated graphics. Unlike previous CPUs with basic integrated display capabilities, these APUs enable gaming at a playable frame rate and resolution. The latest Ryzen APUs from the 8000 series offer excellent support for entry-level gaming at 1080p.

Gigabyte lists memory support for Ryzen 9000 G-series CPUs

AMD has had a great deal of success with the Strix Point APU chips, but the new AM5 socket has yet to receive a true Zen 5 APU to go with it; the current 8000G series is based on Zen 4 architecture. Previous leaks suggested that AMD was working on a Strix Point mid-generation refresh called Gorgon Point; however, it remains unclear if this aligns with the Ryzen 9000G. The G indicates the presence of more advanced integrated graphics on the chip, unlike the non-G equivalents.

Motherboard manufacturer Gigabyte appears to have insider knowledge about an upcoming Ryzen 9000G launch. Gigabyte has updated its website to list Ryzen 9000 G-Series CPU support under the ‘Memory Support List'. This appears under the information for Gigabyte’s B650M Gaming WiFi 6E motherboard.

Curiously, the Ryzen 9000 G-Series CPU entry appears to have completely replaced the entry for the non-G series. This suggests that memory support for the CPU and APU might be the same. Alternatively, Gigabyte may have posted the update before full technical details were available.

There have been no other announcements regarding the imminent launch of the Ryzen 9000G series. Nor have there been any credible rumors of industry leaks suggesting that the launch is coming soon. This leaves us to wonder if Gigabyte has jumped the gun, or if they know something we don’t.
