What we like about the Samsung Odyssey G5 G51F
QHD resolution provides a crisp image on this screen size
The Odyssey G5 G51F combines a 27-inch panel with a 2560×1440 native resolution, giving it considerably greater pixel density than a comparable 1080p gaming monitor. QHD provides a useful middle ground between image quality and GPU demands, delivering noticeably sharper games and desktop content without the substantial performance cost associated with native 4K.

180Hz refresh rate for high-frame-rate gaming
A 180Hz maximum refresh rate gives the G51F significantly greater motion fluidity than conventional 60Hz, 75Hz, or even 144Hz displays. When paired with a GPU capable of producing sufficiently high frame rates, this makes camera movements and fast competitive gameplay appear smoother while reducing the interval between individual displayed frames.
1ms response time
Samsung quotes a 1ms response time, complementing the monitor’s 180Hz refresh rate. Faster pixel transitions are particularly important in FPS, racing, and other fast-moving games, where excessive response times can result in visible trailing and blur behind moving objects.
VA panel with 3000:1 contrast
The G51F uses a VA panel with a specified 3000:1 static contrast ratio. That’s substantially higher than the roughly 1000:1 contrast commonly associated with IPS gaming displays, allowing blacks to appear deeper and improving separation between bright and dark portions of an image.
AMD FreeSync
AMD FreeSync synchronizes the monitor’s refresh behavior with compatible GPU frame rates, reducing screen tearing and minimizing the stutter associated with conventional fixed-refresh operation. It’s particularly useful when frame rates fluctuate below the monitor’s maximum 180Hz refresh rate.
Who should consider this Samsung Odyssey G5 monitor deal?
The Samsung Odyssey G5 G51F is primarily suited to PC gamers looking for the combination of QHD resolution and a high refresh rate without moving into the considerably more expensive OLED or Mini-LED panels. Its 2560×1440 resolution is especially well matched to mid-range and upper-mid-range gaming PCs. Modern graphics cards generally find 1440p considerably easier to drive at high frame rates than 4K, making better use of the G51F’s 180Hz capability. The combination of high contrast and HDR10 support also makes it suitable for gamers who prioritize darker, atmospheric games alongside competitive titles.
