AMD’s Socket AM5 CPUs are getting a good bit of attention during the Prime Day Sales. And there’s another name to add to the list. The Ryzen 7 7700X has finally broken the $200 mark (heading the right way) for a new record low price.

Yes, the 7700X has dropped down to $199.99, the first time it’s been at or below $200 on Amazon since launch. And it needed the discount too, as siblings and newer relatives have also eschewed higher prices. The new price is actually 50% below its $400 list price, and not to be sniffed at.

What we like about the Ryzen 7 7700X

Good value

Value isn’t something we’ve always praised this processor for. But the current deal price puts it $60 below its 9700X successor, and that matters. The Ryzen 7 7700X is a CPU that can help build a fine gaming or productivity PC. And a $200 suits it well.

Well-balanced

When we reviewed the Ryzen 7 7700X, we noted it “offers a fantastic mix of performance, productivity, and value.” That’s still the case because it’s an 8-core, 16-thread CPU that delivers a step up from the Ryzen 5 7600X and reliable power for mid-range systems.

Socket AM5

A badge that all Socket AM5 CPUs wear with pride. The drop-in upgrade potential on the AM5 platform is excellent. With the AMD 9000 series CPUs offering options, and 10000 series to come, upgrading to AM5 now makes a lot of sense if you’re able.

What to consider before you buy

If you are upgrading from Socket AM4, you have lots of options. This Prime Day is all about your priorities and your budget. The newer Ryzen 5 9600X ($24 less) has fewer cores and threads, and so less productivity potential. The Ryzen 7 9700X ($60 more) is more power-efficient, cooler, and has the edge in performance. The Ryzen 7 7700X sits right in the middle, and is solid in its own right. You could also pair it with the best GPUs for the 7700X for a solid setup.
