Of all of the price-hiked SSD drives, and there are a lot, Kingston’s NV3 family is one we keep coming back to. Yes, it’s also been driven up in cost this year, but it’s not as expensive as, say, Samsung’s SSDs, and the performance is solid. So it’s good to see the NV3 1TB back to itself, having spiked to $180 at the start of October. It’s now back to $156.50, and that lower cost is one of the reasons we’d pick it.

Why we’d pick the Kingston NV3 1TB SSD

Relatively good value

Back at around $156, the 1TB NV3 is a standout option for better value from an established name. The next best option for us is the Samsung SSD 990 1TB, but as we write, it is priced at $190. That $45 jump may matter more than the bump in performance, which is probably why the NV3 1TB is so popular.

Fast enough for most

This PCIe Gen 4 SSD is likely fast enough for most use cases. Unless you demand rapid speeds and workflows, especially across larger files, this drive’s up to 6,000MB/s (read) and up to 4,000MB/s (write) sequential speeds are more than enough for modern computing, whether you need a boot drive, game storage, or anything else.

Single-sided

It’s not just PCs that can benefit from the NV3 1TB. With it being single-sided, it’s a less fiddly choice for fitting into laptops as a replacement boot drive. And you could even use it to expand your PlayStation 5, since it’s a standard size that fits Sony’s requirements for NVMe SSDs.

What to consider before you buy

We always recommend taking a look at the best NVMe SSDs or the best SSDs for gaming for added context. However, the reality in 2026 is that you’re usually best buying what you can afford as long as it does the job. And that’s why we like the Kingston NV3 1TB. If you’re not fussed about the best speeds, but want a reliable, snappy drive, it’s a solid pick. And it’s all the better for the current discount and a return to familiar pricing.
