AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor looks to be just around the corner and is all set to be the first X3D CPU in the latest 9000 series. We already know that November 7th is the date to look forward to, with this specific SKU highly anticipated. In any case, there have been a ton of leaks lately, the latest showcasing the 9800X3D full specs.

Now, the gaming chip has shown up in Blender’s Open Data database, so we can see how well it stacks up against the competition in this particular synthetic benchmark. While X3D is designed more so for gaming rather than productivity, it’s worth checking out how the brand-new Zen 5 processor performs.

9800X3D scores the highest for a Ryzen 7 CPU

As is to be expected, the 9800X3D takes the new top spot when compared to its predecessors, the 7800X3D and 5800X3D. We’ve reviewed both of those CPUs and were impressed by the results in gaming, though the workstation performance was a little lacking compared to the alternatives. That’s fine though, and it’s nice to see the 9800X3D get a decent boost in the non-gaming department.

According to results posted on Blender, the 9800X3D hit a score of 323.76, while the 7800X3D averages 256.24. For comparison, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D and 7900X3D offer 386.43 and 513.43, respectively.

How does that compare to Intel?

Intel processors are generally more targeted towards productivity, and since Team Blue lacks an equivalent to AMD’s X3D technology, it will struggle to compete in gaming this generation. The latest Core Ultra CPUs haven’t exactly impressed gamers, but what about synthetic benchmarks like Blender?

CPUMedian ScoreNo. of Benchmarks
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D323.761
Intel Core Ultra 9 285K558.7427
Intel Core i9-14900K476.23184
Intel Core Ultra 7 265K460.3815
Intel Core i7-14700K433.66103
Intel Core Ultra 5 245K322.1010
Intel Core i5-14600K293.0245

As we can see from the results above, Intel’s new flagship Ultra 9 285K is way out on top, while the Ultra 5 245K is closest to the 9800X3D in this particular Blender 4.2.0 benchmark. We’ve reviewed both the new Intel CPUs and found excellent multi-core performance in our in-house tests.

It is worth keeping in mind that the median score for the latest CPUs doesn’t have the luxury of a massive pool of data, which may skew scores slightly. Even still, these benchmarks are a great way of understanding what the current market offers. We wouldn’t suggest upgrading from the 7800X3D to the 9800X3D based on these results, but anyone on older AM4 hardware might be tempted to do so.
