9800X3D is over $100 cheaper than Intel’s flagship 285K and 20% better for gaming according to AMD

The Intel Core Ultra 200 series CPUs were launched recently. While everyone had high expectations from them, the launch wasn’t massively successful. This is mainly because the CPUs didn’t offer many improvements compared to the 14th-gen lineup. In fact, the Core Ultra 9 285K offered similar performance to the 14900K, with the latter even leading in some tests.
Now, AMD has officially announced the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which will be the first 9000X3D CPU to hit the market. According to the company, it offers significantly better gaming performance than the Core Ultra 285K – Intel’s current flagship model.
Ryzen 7 9800X3D gaming performance is much better than the Core Ultra 285K
The SVP and General Manager of Computing & Graphics Group at AMD, Jack Huynh, announced the Ryzen 7 9800X3D in a video posted on his X account. In the video, he claimed that the new X3D processors will offer up to 8% better performance than the previous X3D chips. He further added that they tested the 9800X3D against the 285K in multiple games, where it was around 20% faster than Intel’s top Core Ultra chip in gaming.

The biggest difference in performance was seen in games like Cyberpunk 2077, Watch Dogs Legion, Far Cry 6, and even the newly released Black Ops 6. Based on what AMD shared, it’s clear that the 9800X3D is the right choice for gaming, as it offers much better performance than every other chip on the market, including the newly launched Core Ultra lineup. On top of that, it will be priced at $479, which is over $100 less than the Core Ultra 285K, which has an MSRP of $589 (and generally retails for a little higher than that so far).
Jack Huynh has also confirmed that users will be able to overclock the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, something you couldn’t do natively with the previous X3D chips. This will allow you to further boost the performance of the 9800X3D in gaming. The next X3D chips are also expected to offer better thermal performance due to reverse 3D V-Cache and CCD layering, so the temps will most likely remain within the safe limits even with overclocking.
