Acer’s Predator Gaming brand is gearing up to unveil a range of new gaming products, including a high-end laptop, a desktop, and potentially a handheld device. The upcoming products are expected to be powered by Intel’s latest Lunar Lake mobile processors and feature Intel Battlemage Xe2 graphics.
Lunar Lake was recently launched at IFA 2024, and along came with it more news of the MSI Claw 8 AI+, another Lunar Lake-based handheld that Acer will have to compete with in this increasingly saturated market space. Acer will be showcasing its new Predator Gaming lineup at the IFA Berlin event as well; its press conference will take place on September 4th. The event will provide an opportunity for gamers and tech enthusiasts to get a closer look at these exciting new products and learn more about their specifications and features.
New Predator Gaming lineup
In a series of teaser videos posted on social media, Predator Gaming has hinted at its upcoming lineup. The videos showcase a sleek gaming laptop and a mysterious device that appears to be a handheld console. While the details are still scarce, the teasers suggest that Acer is entering the competitive handheld gaming market, challenging the dominance of devices like the Steam Deck.
The Predator Gaming products are expected to be powered by Intel’s Lunar Lake mobile processors, which have now been officially launched at IFA 2024. These processors offer significant performance improvements over previous generations and are well-suited for demanding gaming applications. Additionally, the devices will feature Intel Battlemage Xe2 graphics, providing high-quality visuals and smooth gameplay.
A potential Steam Deck rival?
The possibility of Acer launching a gaming handheld is particularly intriguing. The handheld gaming market has seen a surge in popularity in recent years, with devices like the Steam Deck proving to be successful. Acer’s potential handheld, if it comes to fruition, could offer a compelling alternative to the Steam Deck, potentially attracting gamers who are seeking a different experience or a more affordable option.
However, the Steam Deck has established a strong reputation for its performance, portability, and user-friendly interface, making it a tough act to follow. Acer will need to offer a compelling value proposition to differentiate its handheld from the competition. Considering it might just be using a Lunar Lake processor, it would be best compared to the upcoming MSI Claw 8 AI+.
The original MSI Claw that we tested didn’t land too well, but a Lunar Lake upgrade could be just what it needs – if so, Acer picked the right time to join in. The new Claw isn’t coming until early 2025, so we’re intrigued to see how Acer fares. On the flip side, Acer may just surprise us with an AMD-based model more akin to the ROG Ally or Legion Go, despite the brand’s recent murmurs of Lunar Lake tech.
