AMD finally confirms RX 9000 series reveal date, but it has already shut down a 32GB GPU rumor
Table of Contents
Just a couple of days ago, a rumor surfaced online suggesting that AMD is working on a 32GB graphics card, specifically a 32GB version of the upcoming RX 9070 XT. The only gaming GPU with that much VRAM at the moment is Nvidia’s flagship RTX 5090, and something that could attempt to match it was an exciting prospect. Even if it doesn’t have the same amount of power, a 32GB card is excellent for productivity – specifically in AI workflows.
However, AMD has now dismissed the idea that there will be an RX 9070 XT 32GB. Interestingly though, it is yet to comment on whether we could be looking at a Pro card within the RX 9000 series which holds this memory configuration. Either way, after months of waiting, all will be revealed at an upcoming event hosted by Team Red for its new series of Radeon GPUs.
AMD pencils in RX 9000 series reveal for February 28
Now confirmed by AMD’s David McAfee on X (Twitter), the RX 9000 series will be revealed via the AMD Gaming YouTube channel on February 28th at 8 AM EST. We’ve converted that into a few different timezones and put together a countdown clock below to help you out. This date is just when they are revealed – the cards will go on sale in “early March” according to CEO Lisa Su.
- February 28th, 5 AM PST (Pacific Time)
- February 28th, 8 AM EST (Eastern Time)
- February 28th, 1 PM GMT (UK)
- February 28th, 2 PM CET (Germany)
- March 1st, 12 AM AEDT (Sydney)
- March 1st, 2 AM NZDT (Auckland)
There will be no RX 9070 XT 32GB graphics card
Frank Azor – Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions and Gaming Marketing at AMD – has directly replied to the 32GB GPU rumors, shutting it down by saying “the 9070 XT card is not coming in 32 GB”. Now, as we said, he hasn’t denied there will be a graphics card with 32GB VRAM altogether, but if one is even planned at all, it won’t be a variant of the RX 9070 XT.
You could speculate that AMD is lining up a new Pro card for workstations, which implementing 32GB of memory would make sense for. Some gamers however would love to see this much VRAM in a gaming GPU, giving Team Red some kind of equivalent to the RTX 5090, even if it doesn’t offer the same kind of raw performance. One user jests about an RX 9090 XTX 32GB, but if Team Red were to actually release a 32GB gaming card, then this kind of tier does at least make some sense.
