It has been six months since AMD launched a new desktop CPU for the latest 9000 series – the high-end 9950X3D and 9900X3D processors, designed for gaming and content creators. And now, we’re dropping further down the tiers as Team Red officially introduces the Ryzen 7 9700F and Ryzen 5 9500F.

The ‘F’ suffix for Ryzen processors indicates a model without integrated graphics, so you’ll need a dedicated graphics card to pair with one of these chips if you plan on buying one further down the road. That being said, the expectation so far is that these new ‘F’ models are designed for OEM (prebuilt) systems, much like the RX 9060 (non-XT) graphics card quietly launched last month.

We can see from the specs lists that the new Ryzen 7 9700F is identical to the 9700X, just without the integrated graphics. We reviewed the Ryzen 7 9700X and found it to be an efficient chip with strong single-core performance, so you can expect much of the same from the 9700F. However, the desktop CPU’s regional availability is listed as “NA” – we can only assume this refers to North America, rather than ‘not applicable’ – but it’s not abundantly clear.

As for the 9500F, this SKU represents a new entry-level for the 9000 series. Although there are no pricing details for these processors, we can see that the 9500F is listed for “global” regional availability. Much like the 9600 (non-X), the new Ryzen 5 9500F will ship with AMD’s Wraith Stealth stock cooler. The Ryzen 7 model, however, will not, so you’ll want to find a decent aftermarket CPU cooler.
