AMD says it is “listening” to RX 9070 series price demands, weeks ahead of launch

Table of Contents
The upcoming Radeon RX 9070 series is arguably AMD’s biggest launch of the year. With two new GPUs on the way, obvious comparisons are being made versus Nvidia’s RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti, but Team Red needs to get the pricing spot-on if it wants to compete in a big way. So far, this important detail has eluded fans, especially with AMD shutting down a recent 9070 XT GPU price rumor.
AMD will also be launching the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D chips this quarter, but it’s the graphics cards that have everyone talking. As Nvidia battles with 50 series stock issues – and the 5070 cards coming this February – it could be the perfect opportunity for AMD to capitalize and land a GPU blow, so to speak. Luckily, it seems it has been listening to fans’ opinions.

“We are listening” says AMD as consumers chime in on pricing debate
We already know the new RDNA 4 GPUs will be available to buy in early March, with a promise to deliver “high-quality 4K gaming” according to AMD CEO Lisa Su. Despite that, these cards aren’t expected to be priced at the same level as something like the RTX 5080 (which retails from $999) – our current prediction based on rumors ranges between $500 and $600. However, it’s all up in the air at the moment and we won’t know for sure until AMD announces it, potentially at the end of February.
In a recent thread on X (formerly Twitter), Frank Azor, Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions and Gaming Marketing at AMD, confirms that “full details are coming soon” for the new Radeon GPUs, and we’re keen to see how it will size up versus the rival RTX 5070 series cards. On the matter of price, one user says that gamers “do not want the products just $50 cheaper than Nvidia” and hopes all the best for the upcoming RDNA 4 launch. In response, Azor says “we are listening” and it gives us hope that AMD will actually settle for competitive pricing with the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT.
At the tail-end of last year, AMD dropped to just 10% GPU market share, so it goes to show that Team Red has some catching up to do on the graphics side of the business. It has been enjoying massive amounts of success with its Ryzen CPUs (such as the 9800X3D), and we hope to see a similarly positive reception to the new Radeon GPUs. From what we know so far, FSR 4 will be exclusive to the new cards, and AMD is taking a little extra time to ensure the launch goes as smoothly as possible.
