AMD throws efficiency out the window as Ryzen 7 9700X & 5 9600X set for 105W TDP BIOS update

Last week, AMD launched two of the CPUs from the next-gen Zen 5 lineup – the Ryzen 5 9600X and the Ryzen 7 9700X. Both of these processors have a TDP of 65W, which makes them comparatively power-efficient than their predecessors.
However, as per a new leak, the Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X will be getting a new BIOS update that will turn the TDP up to 105W.
Zen 5 CPUs to get a higher default TDP
For a while now, it had been speculated that AMD was considering revising the TDP of the new processors. So this new leak by X (Twitter) user chi11eddog doubles down on that rumor.

As per the post on X, it is being suggested that AMD will increase the TDP of Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X CPUs to 105W from 65W with the AGESA 1.2.0.1a Patch A BIOS update.
Considering that both CPUs received underwhelming reviews, AMD might up the power limits to boost performance of the CPUs. Even though the gap between existing 65W and the new possible TDP 105W is rather big, it remains to be seen how much impact it would have on the performance.
All the AM5 motherboards can get the new TDP update with the AGESA 1.2.0.1 Patch A BIOS when it is released officially. Players who prefer to keep the TDP can choose not to get this update.
However, it should be noted that this change in TDP has not been confirmed yet by AMD and we don't know when this BIOS update will arrive. But if we were to make any guesses, the update will happen after the release of Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 9 9950X, which is scheduled for tomorrow, that is, August 15th.
