AMD’s 7800X3D remains at nearly $500 despite 9800X3D launching for $479

The Ryzen 7 9800X3D was launched today, and it quickly sold out across major retailers like Amazon, Newegg, and Best Buy. This was already kind of expected, as the demand for it was pretty high, with everyone wanting to experience what the next X3D chips offer. Early reviews already showed the CPU delivering over 20% better gaming performance than the Core Ultra 285K, further increasing the hype. However, despite the new X3D CPU launching at $479, its predecessor’s price hasn’t dropped at all.
No change in Ryzen 7 7800X3D’s price
A few weeks ago, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D went out of stock on popular retailers, including Amazon and Best Buy. The only retailer selling it at that time was Newegg, but even there, it was listed for over $600. While it did come back in stock after a while, it got listed at prices higher than before. And now, even after its successor launched, the 7800X3D is still listed at prices similar to or higher than it.
On Amazon, the 7800X3D is currently listed for $476, which is much higher than what it was listed for before October if you look at the price history on Camelcamelcamel. And on Newegg, the CPU is currently being sold for $569, which is $90 higher than its predecessor. Everyone was expecting the prices to go down with the launch of the 9800X3D, but nothing has changed so far, as the prices are the same as before.

If that happens, any hope for a price drop on its predecessor is likely off the table, and the 7800X3D's price will probably stay the same until the 9800X3D's stock issues are resolved.
