CES 2025 has already proven to be an exciting time for the tech industry, and the event has only just started. This is because AMD’s keynote has taken place and we’ve learned a whole lot about what Team Red has been up to in recent months. Alongside the launch of the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards, and new X3D chips, there’s also the announcement of more AMD Ryzen AI 300 series processors on the way for mobile devices (laptops, in other words).

One of the stand-out features of Ryzen AI 300, as advertised by AMD in its presentation, is “multi-day battery life” and the company is introducing a few new processors to continue the series after it first debuted not too long after the launch of the desktop 9000 series CPUs.

Upcoming Ryzen AI-powered laptops offer over 24 hours of battery life

These claims are “based on testing and engineering projections as of Dec 2024 using video playback, web browsing, Microsoft Teams, and MobileMark25 battery life methodology” according to the official AMD slides, using a couple of different systems utilizing the Ryzen PRO AI 7 350. We’ll get a better understanding of real-time results once reviews come to light, but AMD claims up to 24 (or more) hours of battery life during video playback.

As of this announcement, we can take a closer look of the specifications for each SKU. As you can see, the new Ryzen AI processors and their associated Pro models will be released in Q1 2025 and Q2 2025 respectively. We’ll have to wait and see which manufacturers will be featuring these new chips in their latest lightweight laptops.

Although these are designed for productivity first and foremost, we’ve seen what frame generation tech like AFMF 2 can do for integrated graphics, so we’re keen to see what kind of gaming performance these upcoming AMD-based laptops can achieve with that in mind.
