AMD’s next GPU might get downgraded to 12GB VRAM as ‘Great Radeon Edition’ leaks online

Details have emerged regarding a new AMD graphics card which is intended for the Chinese market. The Radeon RX 9070 GRE will have a slight downgrade compared to other GPUs in the RX 9070 series, however. For reference, AMD has clarified that GRE stands for ‘Great Radeon Edition’ – it was previously associated with ‘Golden Rabbit Edition’ in a nod to the Chinese zodiac.
RX 9070 GRE isn’t getting the full memory configuration, reports Benchlife
The information comes from Benchlife, a media outlet that has cultivated several contacts within the industry, particularly with many board partners for both AMD and Nvidia. According to this report, the Radeon RX 9070 GRE is now ready to enter mass production.
The report goes on to specify that the RX 9070 GRE is intended for the Chinese market, and will use a 192-bit bus and 12GB of memory. This is cut down from the 256-bit memory bus and 16GB of VRAM available on the other RX 9070 series cards.
In the past, AMD has prioritised different SKUs for different markets, so developing the RX 9070 GRE for the Chinese market matches a pattern that AMD has followed before. It is unknown at this stage if there are any plans for the GRE to be released elsewhere.
The Radeon RX 9070 XT has been one of the most popular and successful graphics cards AMD has released in recent years. Though it has been generally more readily available than rival cards from Nvidia, stock has still been in high demand, pushing prices up.
- GPU: Navi 48 XT

- Memory Bus Width: 256-bit
- Base/Game/Boost clock speed: 1,660/2,400/2,970 MHz
- TBP: 304W
For the Western market, the next Radeon GPU is expected to be from the RX 9060 series, which AMD has already said will be coming in Q2 2025. But, in the meantime, the GRE could be to fill the gap between the 9070 and 9060 series, or it might be to relieve some of the heavy demand for the RX 9070 series for the Chinese market.
Surprisingly, the GRE is already said to be in advanced planning stages and ready for production, since the RX 9070 cards were in the production phase for months before they were ready for launch.
