AMD’s recent GPU sales are actually on par with Nvidia, but we don’t expect that to last much longer

Table of Contents
Retailer GPU sales are an obvious indicator of the current market share. And right now, Nvidia and AMD are almost dead even. However, with a handful of massive launches just over the horizon, we expect Nvidia to soon be the biggest winner. Based on current speculation, Intel is up first with its new Arc Battlemage GPUs in December, followed by Nvidia and AMD sometime in early 2025.
On the topic of Nvidia, many people are looking forward to its RTX 50 series – which is shaping up to be uncontested at the top-end. AMD is taking a step back and Intel is unlikely to challenge, leaving what feels like the perfect opportunity for Nvidia to tighten its grasp on the high-end graphics card market.
Nvidia and AMD are evenly matched in recent German retail sales
According to recent sales at German retailer Mindfactory, published by TechEpiphany, Nvidia sold just 10 more units than AMD in week 47 of 2025 (November 18th to November 24th). The statistics show that Nvidia sold 1,310 units to AMD’s 1,300, with Intel selling just 30 GPUs. Total revenue was skewed slightly in favor of Nvidia – 54.09% – as to be expected given the (usually) more premium price tags from Team Green.

GPU (top 10) | Units sold |
---|---|
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Super | 340 |
AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT | 310 |
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super | 235 |
AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT | 210 |
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti | 190 |
AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX | 170 |
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Super | 155 |
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 | 135 |
AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT | 130 |
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 | 130 |
As we can see above, the RTX 4070 Super is on top, overtaking the RX 7800 XT, a GPU that has proven to be incredibly popular in recent weeks and months. There hasn’t been a new big graphics card launch for a while now, but these sales do look slightly inflated, possibly as a result of recent CPU launches providing a reason to upgrade.
Even with these statistics looking even, we expect Nvidia sales to flourish once the next generation arrives; there’s a reason why they’ve long been dominant on the Steam Hardware Survey. As we mentioned earlier, both AMD and Intel will not be challenging Nvidia at the top end, and the new flagship RTX 5090 looks far ahead of any competition, at least based on leaked specs so far.
We like to think that AMD just needs a better version of the RTX 5070 to compete, but the reality is that RTX 5090 sales will likely skew (at least) the revenue in Nvidia’s favor, and we don’t even know what next-gen tech is coming with the 50 series outside of hardware upgrades. If you’re anticipating the RTX 50 series, then you’ll want to tune into Nvidia’s CES 2025 keynote, which is when it could announce the next-gen GPUs.
