AMD’s upcoming RX 9000 GPUs will be aggressively priced versus “existing product line” suggests new rumor

Both Intel and Nvidia have launched their new series of graphics cards – Arc Battlemage and the RTX 50 series respectively. However, we’re still waiting for AMD to make its move. At the very least, we know the cards will be released in “early March,” as confirmed in a recent earnings call with CEO Lisa Su.
Official pricing has yet to be confirmed, although AMD does say it is “listening” to RX 9070 series price demands from fans. Off the back of that news, a new rumor suggests that Team Red is going aggressive with its pricing strategy, even targeting some of its existing line-up, supposedly the RX 7800 XT.
RX 9000 series graphics cards will offer “very sharp” pricing
The upcoming 9000 series (note the 8000 naming convention has been skipped for this generation’s desktop GPUs) will be AMD’s best shot at reclaiming some GPU market share after dropping to just 10% towards the end of last year. A new rumor highlighted by Chinese news outlet IT Home, sourced from Board Channel forums, says the 9000 series pricing will be “very sharp” – even against its “existing product line”.

According to the source, not only will the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT be targeting Nvidia’s upcoming cards (the RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti), but they will also be aggressively priced versus the likes of the 7800 XT, one of AMD’s most popular options from the current generation. For reference, the RX 7800 XT launched with an MSRP of $499 USD, while Nvidia’s 5070 and 5070 Ti are priced at $549 and $749 respectively. The 7800 XT reportedly ceased production in January, so it would make sense for the 9000 series to come along and replace it with two new options boasting exclusive FSR 4 support on brand-new RDNA 4 architecture.

As always, these rumors are not official and should be taken with a pinch of salt. At the very least, AMD’s recent comments that it is “listening” to the price debate suggest it will be ensuring competitive price tags for its upcoming RX 9070 series GPUs.
