Apple iPhone Air 2 reportedly delayed, citing “lower-than-expected” sales of the current model

Apple released the iPhone Air a couple of months ago, aimed at users who prefer lightweight, ultra-thin phones. It was released alongside the iPhone 17 lineup, boasting a 6.5-inch display, 12GB RAM, the A19 Pro chip, and much more. However, if you were looking forward to its successor, the iPhone Air 2, you’ll be disappointed to learn that it has reportedly been delayed.
While there wasn’t anything official on the iPhone Air 2 yet, the phone was expected to launch next year alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. However, according to a report from The Information, Apple recently notified engineers and suppliers that they are delaying the next iPhone Air. They have basically decided to take it “off the schedule” and have not provided a new release date for it.
iPhone Air may not have a successor next year
The iPhone Air 2 was set to offer several upgrades over the current model. For instance, rumors claimed that it would be even lighter than the current model with two cameras instead of one. On top of that, Apple was also planning to introduce a larger battery and the vapor cooling system, which debuted with the iPhone 17 Pro.
However, as per the report from The Information, everything is on hold for now. The reason for this appears to be lower-than-expected sales of the iPhone Air so far, which did not meet Apple’s expected figures. In fact, Foxconn, the Taiwanese manufacturer, is expected to halt all production of the phone by the end of this month. On the other hand, another iPhone Air production partner, Luxshare, already ended its production at the end of October. This seems to indicate that the iPhone Air hasn’t been a successful device for Apple.
The Information, however, does mention that the delay could be because the iPhone Air 2 is undergoing a major design change. Reportedly, someone from Apple also told them the next-generation iPhone Air could still be released as soon as Spring 2027.
