It hasn’t been long since the 20th Anniversary of Half-Life 2, which gave Steam users the chance to pick up Half-Life 2 for free. That promotion has since ended, but it also dished out discounts to the rest of the Half-Life series, including the latest entry, Half-Life: Alyx. It took nearly 13 years for the universe to be revived with a main-line title, with virtual reality being the catalyst for Valve.

We think it’s easy to argue that HL: Alyx is the best VR experience on Steam, and now with the Steam Autumn Sale well underway, it has dropped even further to an all-time low price. Anyone with a VR headset definitely needs to check it out, doubly so if you’re already a fan of the Half-Life franchise.

Half-Life: Alyx is 67% off in the Steam Autumn Sale

According to SteamDB, the cheapest the game has been prior to the Autumn Sale was $20.39, but right now, you can get it for just $19.79, which represents 67% off its full $59.99 price tag. If you want a brief synopsis, you assume the role of Alyx between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2, helping bridge the gap between the games from another major character’s perspective. Expect a healthy mix of FPS combat and physics-based puzzle solving along with an immersive world that provides a detailed look at City 17 as the Combine’s control of the planet strengthens.

Taking a look at the top-rated games on Steam (via SteamDB), you’ll find that Portal 2 remains at #1 – but Half-Life: Alyx just about makes it into the top 10 with the #10 slot with a 96.77% rating at the time of writing. In fact, it is the highest-rated VR game on the platform. Funnily enough, even one of the negative reviews on Steam says “Stop looking in the negative reviews and buy this game, it’s easily one of the best VR games ever created” – what more can we say?
