ASUS has unveiled yet another innovation in the gaming monitor market, showcasing the world’s first dual-mode OLED gaming monitor at Computex 2024. According to TweakTown, this new display, the ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDP, boasts the ability to switch between stunning 4K resolution and a blistering fast 1080p resolution, all at ridiculously high impressive refresh rates. Let’s dive into to investigate a little further.

4K and dual-mode functionality

The PG32UCDP offers a massive 32-inch viewing experience with a crisp 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution. Gamers will enjoy the monitor’s incredibly fast 0.03ms response time, meaning blur-free visuals during even the most intense gameplay. But the true star of the show is the innovative dual-mode functionality.

What do we mean by dual-mode functionality? Well, this unique feature allows users to seamlessly switch between prioritizing high-fidelity visuals or achieving the ultimate refresh rate for competitive gaming. When playing titles known for their graphics, users can opt for the 4K resolution at 240Hz, delivering a more immersive experience.

However, for fast-paced competitive games like Valorant, League of Legends, or Overwatch 2, the PG32UCDP can switch gears and provide a 480Hz refresh rate at 1080p resolution. This allows for unparalleled responsiveness and ultra-smooth gameplay, giving players a potential edge over the competition online.

Display technology

The PG32UCDP utilizes the latest advancements in display technology. The monitor features a third-generation WOLED panel from LG, boasting MLA (Multi-Layer Actuator) technology. This will benefit players as these panels are reported to be 30% brighter than previous generations and come with improved burn-in mitigation techniques, a common concern with OLED displays.

Despite initial reports, this ASUS monitor is actually not the first of its kind, in-fact it was LG who released their own dual mode OLED, the 32-inch 32GS95UE-B, first. This gaming monitor is also able to jump seamlessley between 4K and 1080p at high refresh rates. Plus, it will adjust the size of the display to accommodate the lower resolution, filling the rest with a OLED black void. This is something we expect the PG32UCDP to do as well.

Game-changer?

ASUS has announced the ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDP is expected to be released sometime in the latter half of 2024. While no official pricing has been revealed, considering the gaming monitor’s cutting-edge features and OLED technology, it’s safe to assume it won’t be a budget-friendly option. However, for serious gamers seeking the ultimate combination of visuals and responsiveness, the PG32UCDP’s dual-mode functionality could be a game-changer, though not the very first to do it.
