Valve is celebrating Steam’s 21st birthday with a special discount on its discontinued Steam Deck LCD models, a group of consoles that are currently being phased out. This presents an excellent opportunity for those who have been considering purchasing a handheld gaming console and want to do so for cheap.
While this is indeed a limited-time discount, you may want to be quick as stock seems to be selling out fast. For example, in the UK, both the 64GB and 512GB models are sold out and it might be your last chance to grab one. As Valve writes: “The 64GB and 512GB Steam Deck LCD models are being phased out. Once sold out these units will no longer be available.”
Two Steam Deck models are now on sale
The 64GB LCD model is currently available at a 15% discount, reducing its price to $296.65. The 512GB LCD model is offered at a more substantial 25% discount, bringing its price down to $336.75. If were to pick between the two, we’d have to go for the larger 512GB storage at this price. That being said, you can pick up an SSD for Steam Deck relatively cheaply (a recent deal on this Corsair 2TB SSD is a good example).
These prices are particularly attractive considering the capabilities of the Steam Deck, which can still handle a wide range of modern games, or even provide access to console classics via emulation. The sale will run until September 26 at 10 AM Pacific Time. It’s important to act quickly, as these models have been discontinued and may not be available once they sell out.
LCD vs OLED Steam Deck models
While the LCD models may not offer the same level of specs as the newer OLED models, such as a stunning OLED panel, higher refresh rate, larger battery, or improved cooling, the discounted prices make them a compelling option – and may even make up for that lack of additional selling power. You can read our Steam Deck OLED vs Steam Deck LCD guide if you want a full comparison.
For those seeking a handheld gaming console at an affordable price, the Steam Deck is well worth considering. This sale represents a good opportunity for potential buyers. Historically, the Steam Deck has been priced competitively for its features, and these discounted LCD models offer even better value. Given the limited availability of these discontinued models, it’s unlikely that such a deal will be repeated any time soon.
