AMD’s highly anticipated RX 9070 XT and its non-XT counterpart have finally been officially announced. With the announcement came official performance figures, giving users an idea of just how much of an uplift the new cards offer compared to their predecessors. According to AMD's internal testing, the RX 9070 XT was benchmarked across 30 different games, including titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy XVI, and more, showing significant performance improvements.

One title useful for testing is 2024’s Game of the Year, Black Myth: Wukong. So, leaked benchmarks for Black Myth: Wukong running on the RX 9070 XT have started to surface on X, and just as we saw the RX 9070 XT outperforming GPUs like the previous-generation RX 7900 GRE and even the RX 5070 Ti, the card once again shows a significant performance uplift over RDNA 2-based GPUs.

RX 9070 XT over 200% faster than the 6800 XT

The leaked benchmarks seem to come from the Chinese forum Chiphell but were posted on X by tech enthusiast Tomasz Gawroński, who showed the RX 9070 XT reportedly being 263% faster, delivering 69 FPS compared to just 19 FPS on the RX 6800 XT under the same settings. The test was conducted at 4K resolution with cinematic ray tracing, frame generation, and FSR set to 50%, making it a demanding scenario that favors the improved ray tracing of RX 9000 series GPUs.

And that wasn’t the only benchmark. In another separate post, Tomasz highlighted a different leaked test where the RX 9070 XT appeared to be twice as fast as the RX 6800 XT in Black Myth: Wukong. Looking at the leaked images, the RX 6800 XT managed to output 70 FPS, while the RX 9070 XT result showed 142 FPS at 4K without ray tracing but with frame generation enabled.

Now, as always, anything that comes with the leaked tag should be taken with a grain of salt, but with the RX 9070 dominating over current-gen GPUs, it shouldn't be a surprise to see it outperforming 6000 series GPUs by this kind of margin. According to AMD’s official benchmarks, in Black Myth: Wukong, the 9070 XT falls just behind Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti in native 4K at ultra settings.

Things are looking good for Team Red

AMD’s RX 9070 series GPUs have so far delivered positive results, with little to no negative news regarding stock levels or performance. That might change once official reviews arrive, but for now, things are looking far better for Team Red than they are for Nvidia. AMD has confirmed that some RX 9070 XT models will outperform the RTX 5070 Ti at 4K, though at a higher cost.

Unlike the latter, which comes with just 96 ROPs, the RX 9070 XT features 128 ROPs, giving it another thing to shout about versus its direct rival. As for its non-Ti sibling, AMD is calling it the “world's best $549 graphics card“.
