After previously releasing a demo version, Final Fantasy XVI has finally rolled out for PC gamers. Players who have been waiting for the 2023 hit title to become playable on PC can now download the full game. For weeks leading up to the release on PC, FFXVI fans were concerned about the performance of the game since the demo was a bit choppy. Further, early testers shared that the performance wasn’t amazing either on GPUs such as the RTX 3080.
To add to that, we have spotted new performance benchmarks that claim that Final Fantasy XVI cannot run in 4K resolution and deliver 60 FPS using the current best graphics card on the market, the RTX 4090. Keep in mind this is based on pure rasterization – without DLSS upscaling or frame gen.
Final Fantasy 16 may have to rely on DLSS 3 for solid performance
As per the report on DSOG (Dark Side Of Gaming), the RTX 4090 graphics card was unable to maintain 4K 60 FPS on PC. As the game does not have a benchmarking tool built into it, the test was conducted in the Titan fight and the Garden, which are said to be some of the most demanding in-game locations.
The tester noted that at native 4K resolution, their testing system with an RTX 4090 couldn’t maintain 60 FPS at all times. The framerates fluctuated between 50 to 70 FPS, with the latter being possible in less demanding locations. However, with DLSS 3 enabled, the build managed to deliver up to 80 FPS and maintain it consistently.
For the benchmark, DSOG reportedly used the following hardware:
RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000Mhz
Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit
Driver version: GeForce 561.09
It took almost a year for Final Fantasy 16 to release on PC. However, in a recent interview, the Final Fantasy game director hinted that it is possible that future FF titles might be released on PC on day one.
