Final Fantasy is a franchise loved by many despite all of the titles being released on console first, making it sort of a console exclusive. Some titles have been ported over to PC, but players have to wait for that. However, we could soon see Final Fantasy games released on PC on day one.

That said, the latest installment in the franchise, Final Fantasy XVI, is finally getting released for PC today, but before you get hyped for it, early benchmark results don’t put it in a great place in terms of performance. This follows up on previous performance issues in the FFXVI demo.

Final Fantasy XVI PC performance

Sebastian Castellanos (@Sebasti66855537) made a post on X highlighting Final Fantasy XVI’s performance on a PC powered by an RTX 3080. The screenshot showed 30 FPS, while he mentioned that the framerates dropped to 40 FPS at 1440p DLAA.

At first glance, the in-game graphics don’t seem too demanding to warrant this performance. We’ve reviewed the RTX 3080, and it had excellent performance at 1440p and 4K with Ray Tracing On in titles like Shadow of the Tomb Raider. We saw that it delivers 95 and 55 FPS as max settings in the mentioned resolutions.

So, 30-40 FPS at 1440p DLAA just sounds like poor optimization. The post also linked to the full YouTube video showcasing the performance in different settings. At 4K high settings with DLSS 3.7 performance mode on, the FPS went to a maximum of 67, while at 1440p DLSS 3.7 quality mode at high settings saw a max of 90 FPS, which is good but that means if we turn off DLSS, the FPS would drop as these aren’t native results.

Some might say that the title is too much for the RTX 3080 to handle, but the fact is that it is still a powerful card to push 4K in modern titles with ease. That said, if you have an Nvidia GPU, updating the drivers released for Final Fantasy XVI and other titles could be a huge help. This should put you at ease, knowing that if you run into poor performance, it isn’t caused by your GPU or drivers.
