First Nvidia RTX 50 series graphics card appears in latest Steam hardware survey

Nvidia announced its RTX 50 series graphics cards at CES early this year, with the first couple of models – the RTX 5090 and 5080 releasing at the end of January. Since then, it has been difficult to find one for a decent price. Similar issues followed with the release of the 5070 and 5070 Ti, as well.
A couple of initiatives such as Nvidia’s Priority Access program and Amazon restricting cards to Prime members help deter scalpers, but we’ll still need some time for these cards to make a dent in the gaming market. Even still, the 50 series has finally made its mark on Steam’s hardware survey – with the RTX 5080 making an (albeit small) appearance.
- GPU: GB203
- CUDA Cores: 10,752

- Memory Bus Width: 256 bit
- Base Clock Speed: 2,295 MHz
- Boost Clock Speed: 2,790 MHz
RTX 5080 is the first 50 series card to appear on Steam’s Hardware Survey
Now that April is here, we can look back at the results for the March hardware survey. There is some movement at the top of the charts, with notable (yet peculiar) drops for the RTX 4060, 4060 Ti, and 4070, though the fan-favorite RTX 3060 remains on top.
While it will take some time for the latest 50 series cards to filter through, especially with ongoing stock issues, we can see that the RTX 5080 becomes the first card to make the cut, with a measley 0.2% of all users who opted into the survey. It sits just behind cards such as former Radeon flagship RX 6900 XT. In comparison, the most popular xx80 series card is the RTX 3080, which accounts for 1.89% of Steam users.
If you’re looking to upgrade your GPU right now, it’s perhaps fair to say that it’s not the greatest time to do so – on account of current pricing and stock issues. However, once that all (hopefully) blows over, there is a great range of options today. While Nvidia remains well ahead of the competiton, AMD has celebrated the RX 9070 XT as it’s best-selling Radeon launch of all time.
