DLSS has become one of the most important features for PC gamers running an Nvidia GPU. It helps improve performance by using AI to upscale lower-resolution images, boosting frame rates without a big drop in visual quality. Fortnite has supported DLSS for a long time, but it has been stuck on an older version for years. Now, it finally looks to be updated.

According to reports online, Fortnite is now using DLSS 4 instead of the much older 2.6 version. The file version is referred to as 310.2.1.0, but it’s better known as its marketing name (DLSS 4). This is a big step forward, as newer DLSS versions bring better image quality, improved stability, and more efficient performance gains compared to earlier implementations.

DLSS 4 support in Fortnite

For those who don’t know, DLSS 4 is part of Nvidia’s latest advancements in AI-powered rendering. It improves how frames are generated and reconstructed, offering sharper visuals and smoother gameplay. It also works better in fast-moving scenes, which is important for a game like Fortnite. DLSS 4 also ships with Multi Frame Generation, but Fortnite only takes advantage of the upscaling and anti-aliasing features; the game doesn’t support native frame gen tech.

archer_fortnite on X reports that the game is now running DLSS 4. In fact, this change may have been around for nearly a month (as spotted by Reddit user u/skurrr-), but people are finally starting to notice nonetheless. DLAA has also been added as an option for better anti-aliasing compared to Temporal (TAA). DLAA focuses more on improving image quality instead of boosting performance, which is great for players who already have powerful hardware and want the best visuals possible.

This change is important because it means players no longer have to rely on workarounds. Previously, some users tried forcing newer DLSS versions through the Nvidia App. While it looked like it worked at first, the game would eventually detect the change and revert back to DLSS 2.6. Now, with official support, players can finally use a newer version without any issues.

That said, it’s worth noting that DLSS has already moved beyond version 4. Newer updates like DLSS 4.5 are available, and DLSS 5 is coming in the fall this year. So, while this is a solid upgrade for Fortnite, it’s still not using the absolute latest version available.
