Fresh RX 9070 XT pricing leak met with poor reaction from PC gamers

With the ongoing issues over at Team Green with the RTX 50 series, many PC gamers are looking at Nvidia's rivals to see what else is on offer. A leak regarding the potential price of the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT card has prompted heated discussion. A Reddit user by the name of u/Esoteric1776 posted an image showing what appears to be a Best Buy webpage displaying search results for the “9070xt”. The results page lacks images and is sparse in detail, but does prominently show three prices.
With stock supply issues and high prices for Nvidia's RTX 50 series, many users were hoping that AMD could offer a more reasonably priced alternative. However, the displayed prices have disappointed many, as evident in users’ comments.
RX 9070 XT price leak suggests as high as $949
The three top results were prices at $949.99, $899.99 and $739.99. All three were listed as ‘Coming Soon' and all had different SKU numbers, but no other information, such as manufacturer. It seems likely that this leaked photo is of Best Buy’s internal product or stock system, as the cards are currently nowhere to be seen on the official storefront. If you’re looking for where to buy the RX 9070 XT & RX 9070, we expect them to be listed soon following their reveal on February 28th.

Fans react to the new leak
“AMD would definitely be snatching defeat from the jaws of victory with this price” said one user, while another complained that the price was playing into Nvidia's hands, “For that price, who is going to buy the 9070 when you can get a better GPU for the same money? It would be a stupid strategy.”
A recent poll reveals that most people are hoping to pay within the $500-$600 region for the upcoming 9070 XT, so it goes to show that these early Best Buy price tags are far from ideal. It is worth noting at least that AMD hasn’t revealed any official performance statistics.
Other more cynical posters have pointed out that as long as the cards keep selling, companies will feel emboldened to keep charging high prices, with one commenter saying: “You're not going to stop buying. They can charge double this, cut supply by 50% and you'll be fighting each other to grab it when you find it. They have zero reasons to lower prices. If anything, Nvidia's bumbled launch emboldens AMD to raise prices.”
We should note that this leak may not accurately represent the final pricing for the new Radeon card. Leaks and rumors should continue to be taken with a pinch of salt. AMD says that it doesn't intend to compete against Nvidia in the high-end GPU market, and are instead focussing on the mid-range consumer sector. These listed prices may be simply placeholders and the real price might be lower, which we hope to see considering AMD has already said it is “listening” to RX 9070 series price demands.
Customers will just need to be patient until the early March release date (as confirmed by AMD CEO Lisa Su) to find out for certain.
