A few weeks ago, a wave of permanent ban posts started appearing on Reddit from GeForce Now users, reporting that Easy Anti-Cheat was flagging Nvidia's official app as a “Known Cheat Program.” This issue was especially common among players of Amazon's New World, though one GeForce Now representative mentioned they had “worked with the publisher to resolve the bans,” and affected players should have their accounts restored.

However, just when we hoped users wouldn't have to worry about the ban hammer striking at random again, it now seems Call of Duty is causing similar issues on GeForce Now. According to one Reddit user, they got Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and just a day later were hit with an Activision notification stating “You have been temporarily banned.” So it seems the issue is happening across multiple games.

Seems like this is a common GeForce Now issue

Interestingly, this isn't the first time GeForce Now users playing Call of Duty have run into this issue. One user noted, “This is a common issue of COD on GFN,” and mentioned that contacting Activision support and explaining you’re using GeForce Now usually gets the ban lifted. Interestingly, prior to this, the studio behind Path of Exile also released an official statement saying “GeForce Now is fine/safe to use,” after rumors began circulating about similar bans affecting GeForce Now users.

But while such workarounds exist, the bigger question is why this keeps happening at all, especially when these publishers have officially partnered with the service. And the fact that GeForce Now users are being pushed into accepting these random bans as normal is concerning. It's hard not to ask, what's the point of subscribing to a cloud gaming platform if you can't even play your games without constantly appealing bans and jumping through support hoops?

Is GeForce Now worth getting?

The annoying part is that GeForce Now is generally considered a solid cloud gaming platform, offering a responsive and smooth streaming experience without the need for expensive hardware. However, with these ongoing ban issues, it's hard to recommend if you mostly want to play one of the affected titles. For the most part, though, you should have no problems, and we’d continue to recommend it for most users.

Still, given that the staff seems aware of the complaints circulating on Reddit, hopefully, we'll see fixes put in place before these issues repeat themselves. As an alternative, if you already own a gaming PC and want to stream games directly to your phone, we recommend checking out Razer's new Remote Play app.
