The Made by Google had a lot of eyes on it, and fans were expecting Google to drop a handful of brand-new hardware, and guess what? They pulled through. We got a look at the Google Pixel Watch 3, the Pixel Buds Pro 2, and the next iteration of the Pixel smartphone, the Pixel 9 Pro and its accompanying variants.

That said, for some, the main attraction was the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, as many were excited to see how Google improved on the first-gen Google Pixel Fold. Fortunately, it seems like it was a massive success with its large Actua display and IPX8 rating to iPad Pro's like thinness; it checked all the boxes, and Lance from TechRadar started with this: “The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold renders the original Fold a prototype at best.”

Specifications
  • Screen size: 8″ inner display, 6.3″ outer display
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • Battery life: 24+ battery life, up to 72-hour with Extreme Battery Saver
  • Processor: Google Tensor G4
  • Storage: 256GB / 512GB

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is well-received

We'll start things off by going back to Lance from TechRadar as he talks about the next iteration in the Fold series. Not only are all the issues resolved, but it also has a premium feel, is bigger, sports an Actua display, and, despite all these improvements, is lighter—giving it a landslide victory.

The reduction in battery size was also noticed, as it went from 4727mAh to 4650mAh, which isn't a huge difference. Due to this, its weight and dimensions have also been reduced, as it is 0.5mm thinner than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and 27g lighter than the Google Pixel Fold.

On the other hand, Patrick from CNET talks fondly of the camera system in the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, with only one complaint: This phone has a 10.5-megapixel sensor, while the Pixel 9 Pro flaunts a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera sensor. Besides that, it’s all uphill as there are specific additions to the camera system for this mobile, like the Made You Look mode.

There is also the Add Me feature, which enables the person taking the picture to add themselves afterward. So, no need to take multiple photos of the same group while swapping random people to take the picture.

Mark from Tom's Guide also spoke fondly of the improvement in the overall display and the front cover. It is much larger than competitors’ options and even the Google Pixel Fold. The OLED display has a 2,700 nits brightness, making it easier to use in direct sunlight. This was one of the main pain points in the original model that has been removed, to many's delight.

Overall, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, as much of a mouthful as that is, is a breath of fresh air in the foldable smartphone market, with massive improvements across the board. While it doesn't come cheap, having a starting price tag of $1,799, it is undoubtedly a mobile phone that will impress with its vast array of features.
