Hades 2 player numbers skyrocket on Steam Deck following its ‘first major update’

Table of Contents
Hades 2 has seen a big jump in players on Steam Deck after its first major update, released on October 16. The game, which was already popular among fans of roguelikes, is currently one of the five most played games on the handheld, sitting just ahead of Diablo 4. This rapid increase in its popularity is all thanks to the massive update.
The game launched into early access in May this year, meaning it didn’t come with a complete list of features or content to enjoy. Even still, it was highly praised, but once the Summer Sale came around, Steam Deck users were favoring the original thanks to a discount.

Hades 2 takes the fourth spot in the Steam Deck top played charts
Steam Deck users seem to be enjoying the new update, as we have seen a significant jump in its ranking in the Steam Deck Top Played charts. At the moment, it stands as the fourth most played game on the Steam Deck, something which it has achieved by climbing 43 positions. This jump is significant and shows just how much impact a well-timed update can have. Many players likely returned to check out the new content, while others might be jumping in for the first time.
The game works extremely well on a controller and is verified on the Deck – these are two vital reasons why it’s a perfect match for handheld gaming. The original remains popular on the Valve device too. Furthermore, you can easily run it even without a dedicated GPU, something we found out when putting together our best settings for Hades 2 guide.
What’s in the new update?
The new update introduced a wealth of new content to the game, including a new region called Olympus, which players can now explore. On top of that, players can master a new weapon, Xinth, the Black Coat, which is the last of the Nocturnal Arms. There are also two new characters for you to unlock.
The update also brings significant reworks to existing weapons and abilities and adds around 2,500 new voice lines to improve the gameplay. As for the user interface, it has received numerous improvements, making it easier to navigate menus and access information. Supergiant Games call this the game’s “first Major Update” and for a full list of changes and improvements, you can check out the official patch notes on Steam.
With this update’s success, Supergiant Games will likely continue to add more content and improvements to Hades 2. While we may not see a massive update like this one soon, the developers might release a series of smaller ones during the next few months. In any case, all we can do for now is wait and see what the developers have in mind for Hades 2.
