Last-minute leak shows RX 9070 XT performing incredibly close to the RX 7900 XTX

AMD has officially announced its RDNA 4-based RX 9070 series GPUs, and along with the official performance figures from the red team, several benchmark leaks have surfaced over the past week. While AMD compared the flagship RX 9070 XT to its predecessor, the 7900 GRE, leaks have started to emerge testing other AMD cards. One recent example was a comparison with the 6800 XT, where the RX 9070 XT was almost 4x faster.
Now, we have yet another leak, but this time, instead of a 6000 series GPU being tested, it’s AMD’s current flagship, the RX 7900 XTX, in 3DMark Time Spy, and the results show the RX 9070 XT performing incredibly close to the XTX. Before we get to the individual scores, remember to take these leaks with a grain of salt, as they don’t come from official sources.
Performance closer to 7900 XTX at a lower price
This last-minute leak appears to come from Chinese forums but was shared on X by a credible leaker, @9550pro. According to the tweet and a breakdown by Tomasz Gawroński, the RX 9070 XT scores over 30,000 in the Time Spy graphics test, while its non-XT counterpart, the RX 9070, hits around 26,000.
The interesting part is that when comparing the RX 9070 XT's score to AMD's current-gen flagship, the 7900 XTX, which scores around 30,500 in these tests, the upcoming RDNA 4 flagship is just 500 points shy of AMD’s top RDNA 3 GPU.
These scores also place the 9070 XT ahead of NVIDIA alternatives like the RTX 4080 Super and RTX 4070 Ti Super, which reportedly score around 28,500 and 27,000, respectively. This means that with an expected MSRP of $599, the 9070 XT could offer performance closer to a GPU that retails for around $849, making it one of the best performance-per-dollar options in AMD's upcoming lineup.
