MSI has once again showcased its highly anticipated Claw 8 AI+ handheld gaming device powered by Intel’s Core Ultra 200V series, codenamed Lunar Lake. While the device was initially announced at Computex earlier this year, it’s only now at IFA 2024 that consumers have had a chance to get a closer look. However, the MSI Claw 8 AI+ release date will have to wait.
Despite being the sole product showcased by MSI at the event, the company has disappointed fans with the news that the Claw 8 AI+ won’t be available for purchase until early 2025, as outlined in their latest press release. This comes as a surprise, especially considering the official press release stated that the product was being “launched.”
Disappointment for fans
The Claw 8 AI+ boasts several improvements over its predecessor, including a larger 8-inch display, a more substantial battery, and additional Thunderbolt 4 ports. However, these enhancements come at the cost of a slightly increased weight and size. In a bid to entice potential buyers, MSI has confirmed that all purchasers of the new Claw 8 will receive a free one-month subscription to Xbox Game Pass. Additionally, the company has clarified that the Claw 8 is not intended to replace the existing Claw 7 (generally known as simply the MSI Claw or MSI Claw A1M) but will be offered alongside it.

In addition to the extended wait for the Claw 8 AI+, another factor that may disappoint some consumers is the lack of significant performance improvements over the first-generation Claw. While the Lunar Lake processor offers enhanced AI capabilities, it remains to be seen whether these improvements will translate into noticeable performance gains in gaming scenarios. Gamers who are seeking a substantial upgrade in raw processing power may find themselves waiting for future generations of handheld devices.
While the Claw 8 AI+ is undoubtedly a promising device, the extended wait for its release is sure to disappoint, especially given it’s launch together with Intel’s Lunar Lake at IFA 2024.
