With Nvidia on the back foot after the raft of issues involving the RTX 50 series, AMD appears to be capitalizing on Team Green's problems by launching a new graphics card to compete against the RTX 5060. A new leak suggests that this card will be on shelves sooner than you might think.
AMD is planning to launch a new graphics card in the low-end of the mid-range to compete with the RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti, according to information obtained from Board Channels. The Board Channels forum is a hub of information used by board partners for Nvidia, AMD, and Intel, and the information there is often accurate.
RX 9060 XT slated for May at the earliest
Traditionally, Nvidia graphics cards with the -60 suffix have been very popular amongst PC gaming fans as they offer the best balance of price and performance. The launch of the RTX 5060 Ti has been marred by driver problems and accusations that the cheaper 8GB model is ‘already obsolete'.
It is possible that AMD hopes to take advantage of this with the announcement of the Radeon RX 9060 XT. According to posts on Board Channels, AMD originally planned to unveil the model in May at Computex, followed by a June launch, but Nvidia's problems may have prompted a change in the timetable.
According to a post obtained by Videocardz, AMD is set to launch the RX 9060 XT on May 18. It is unknown if this is the planned date of the launch, or a mistranslation or similar misunderstanding, since a June launch is also mentioned.
The AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT is expected to use the Navi 44 GPU chip, with 2,048 Stream Processors and also featuring 16GB and 8GB VRAM configurations, similar to the RTX 5060.
The post also mentions that the launch of the Radeon RX 9070 GRE has been pushed back to Q4 of 2025.
It is important to note that these are rumours, and as such should be taken with a grain of salt until such time as AMD make an official announcement.
