The Made by Google event has brought with it the next generation of Pixel hardware. In particular, we take a look at what the Pixel Watch 3 has to offer. At the time of the announcement, reviews and hands-on testing with the new smartwatch started flooding the web. The biggest talking point of the 3 is the addition of another size, bringing a larger 45mm version alongside the familiar 41mm should satisfy the needs of those with more wrist space to cover and take advantage of a bigger screen.
However, that’s not the only change coming to the Pixel Watch as Ray from DC Rainmaker says “In many ways, that’s actually not the most important new thing on the Pixel Watch 3”. Stating that for sports and fitness people there’s a whole load of new additions that are more important than the screen size. Primarily with a focus on training load, readiness, running features, and more, the shift to ready up the Fitbit app upgrades the insights from simple and behind others, to something more competitive and useful for those who want it.
General consensus and insights into the Pixel Watch 3
As Victoria from The Verge talks of the watch, it’s a big leap forward, talking of how the third generation is where the expectations rise considering the company would have had time to work out any flaws and kinks of its new products. Well, they were “pleasantly surprised” to walk away after being impressed by what they saw from the Watch 3. Highlighting the improvements in two main scenarios: health or fitness and interconnectivity. Calling some parts ambitious, particularly the no pulse detection feature that will call emergency services if it detects loss of pulse.
While Jacob from TechRadar, talks of the improved Actua Display as they utilize LTPO AMOLED. That enables it to be much brighter and run a refresh rate ranging from 1 to 60Hz. Not only does that help with seeing the screen out in daylight, but also allows a good battery life when required as it alters these as needed and pushes a reported 36 hours with battery saver mode.
Then Kate from Tom’s Guide praises the improvement over the previous generations, as the bezel size is finally shrunk down and now also comes in a bigger size. Along with the impressive heart rate monitor and fitness features, including what you can access without the need for the Fitbit Premium subscription. Such as the readiness score that comes out from behind the paywall and getting your activity and recovery ready on a day-to-day basis for an improved routine.
In general, the new Watch 3 sees a lot of general improvements with a focus on fitness. But also there is a better integration, especially as a Smart Watch for Pixel Phones and uniting the Google ecosystem. It also gives you the ability to unlock your phone and even certain BMW car models if you own them thanks to the addition of an ultra-wideband chip. All in all, it looks to be a strong release when they come out in September.
