Popular PS3 emulator to get improved handheld support as devs ask players for suggestions
Table of Contents
RPCS3 is one of the most popular PS3 emulators available today. It allows players to run a large number of PlayStation 3 games on PC, something that once seemed like a mammoth task. Over the past few years, the project has made significant progress, and the compatibility list continues to grow. In fact, around 70% of PS3 games are now rated “Playable” on PC through RPCS3. Now, it looks like handheld gaming devices could be the next focus for improvements.
Handheld PC gaming has grown rapidly in recent years, mainly due to the launch of devices such as the Steam Deck, Lenovo Legion Go, and ASUS ROG Ally. And right now, the developers behind RPCS3 are looking into improving the experience for handheld users.
RPCS3 for PC gaming handhelds
In a recent post on X, the official RPCS3 account asked handheld PC players what features they would like to see added or improved in the emulator. The team is working on improving the handheld user interface and overall usability, and they are gathering feedback to help shape those changes.

The RPCS3 devs also shared some early details about features that handheld users can expect in future updates. One of the upcoming improvements is a redesigned in-game home menu that will allow players to quickly adjust certain settings without needing to restart the game. This should make it easier to tweak performance options while playing.
Other planned changes include better mapping for home menu buttons, which should make navigation smoother. The team is also working on a feature that will allow users to add games to Steam directly from within RPCS3.
In the thread, one user suggested adding a button that could automatically configure a game’s settings based on the emulator’s wiki recommendations. Manually adjusting those settings can sometimes take time, especially for new users. RPCS3 responded to the suggestion and confirmed that an auto-configuration feature based on wiki settings is currently being worked on.
Automatic configs are already well established within PC gaming for Steam Deck users, with many devs focused on supporting the popular handheld with a set of default settings that will help earn ‘Verified’ status. Microsoft has been keen to roll out something similar for the ROG Xbox Ally with “hand-crafted” default game profiles.
