Even months after its release, the RTX 5090 is still being used to break records. As the top graphics card available, it, of course, is the perfect candidate for the job with massive amounts of power behind it, and if you can unlock it, that’s where it shines. That’s clearly what the high-end ROG Astral was used to climb to the top of the 3DMark Port Royal scoreboard.

ROG Global shared that the high score was achieved by the overclocker Splave using its Astral model RTX 5090. With a top score of 47,375 points, it propels it up to the top spot, just 179 points above second place. Interestingly, the top GPU has been paired with the 14900KS Intel CPU, and many of the top spots clearly benefit from its ability to run the benchmark.

Splave did feature in an LTT video a couple of weeks back when the team worked on modding the ROG Astral RTX 5090 and using an industrial cooler and then an environmental chamber to achieve their high scores. All of that without using liquid nitrogen and still using an AMD CPU has meant LTT in 12th place, but after giving Splave the card, he has managed to push it even further on his own setup and the Intel CPU.

3DMark’s Port Royal and the RTX 5090

3DMark in general is a benchmarking software for hardware, which we ourselves use in our reviews for testing CPUs, GPUs, and even storage. Port Royal, in particular, is used for testing out real-time ray tracing with DirectX. So it’s a good option for a gaming graphics card, rather than being outright beaten by enterprise cards, as you find in the Time Spy Extreme benchmarks.

According to the specs, ASUS says the ROG Astral RTX 5090 OC Edition card can be boosted up to 2,610 MHz in OC mode, but Splave pushed it much further by achieving a 3510 MHz core clock speed in his world record benchmark.

In the video on the ROG Astral 5090, Splave also commented on the fact that the card is one of his favorites with a top baseline and the ability to be pushed so far from the get-go. It also features a great cooler design that allows it to achieve high scores without requiring LN2 modifications.
