Anyone waiting for Nvidia’s next generation of gaming GPUs may have to wait much longer than expected. While recent rumors pointed toward the RTX 60 Series potentially arriving sometime in 2027, a reliable hardware leaker now claims Nvidia won’t release its next-generation GeForce cards until 2028, leaving a three-year gap between the RTX 50 and 60 series.

The information comes from Kepler_L2, who has a solid track record with upcoming GPU hardware. Responding to recent claims of an RTX 6090 launch in 2027, the leaker simply said they were wrong. “RTX 60 is not coming next year,” says the leaker. On the AMD side of things, Kepler suggests Team Red will only launch a single RDNA 5 GPU (and perhaps give it DLSS 5-like support).

Only one major GPU release in 2027?

Kepler_L2 claims that only one next-generation GPU will arrive in 2027, and it apparently won’t be from Nvidia. If the information is accurate, it means there could be a gap of around three years between the launch of Nvidia’s RTX 50 series and its successor. AMD may get its next-generation architecture onto the market earlier, but apparently only with one GPU.

According to Kepler_L2, AT2 will be the only next-generation GPU released in 2027, while everything else from AMD and Nvidia is planned for 2028. AT2 is believed to refer to Alpha Trion 2, a codename associated with AMD’s upcoming RDNA 5 architecture.

Previous leaks have suggested AT2 could feature up to 64 compute units. However, specifications remain unconfirmed, and it isn’t yet clear exactly where this GPU would sit within AMD’s future Radeon lineup.

There may not be an RTX 50 Super refresh to fill the gap either. Nvidia was previously rumored to be preparing refreshed RTX 50-series cards, but another well-known leaker, MEGAsizeGPU, recently said they are no longer optimistic about the lineup and suggested it may not launch at all.

One potential reason behind these changing plans is the ongoing memory shortage. Demand for memory from the AI and data center industries has put significant pressure on supplies, making it more difficult and expensive to secure the memory required for new consumer graphics cards.

For now, none of these release plans have been confirmed by Nvidia or AMD. But if the leaks are accurate, 2027 could be an unusually quiet year for new gaming GPUs, with AMD potentially releasing just one RDNA 5 chip and Nvidia holding its RTX 60-series until 2028. We could instead hold out hope for more from Intel’s Arc series, which has enjoyed a market share boost lately.
