Steam Frame has arrived in Valve’s latest Steam survey, and it’s already more popular than PSVR 2
Table of Contents
New month, new Steam Hardware & Software Survey to delve into. And when it comes to VR headset market share, one of the first things we noticed is the influx of new Steam Frame owners. This time last month, Valve’s new headset wasn’t yet visible on the monthly survey, though it was retroactively added with just 0.41% of market share. But right now, it sits at more than 4%.
Meta Quest 3 remains top of the pack with more than 27% of users, while the more budget-friendly Quest 3S enjoys just over 11% of market share. Unsurprisingly, the discontinued Quest 2 declines further, and the Valve Index has dipped below 10% after its own discontinuation last month, despite Valve selling off remaining stock (including peripherals) with a 20% discount.
VR headsets in Steam Survey October 2026
Valve has now published its monthly data for VR headset usage. For reference, just 1.75% of all Steam users own a VR headset (and have used it with their system), so it’s still a niche area in the grand scheme of things. Either way, the Steam Frame seems to be enjoying a successful start following its launch in September – Valve continues to work through its reservation system, with more order invites due to be sent by December or early 2027.

As the newest major headset on the market, the Steam Frame enjoys the biggest growth over the past month, and it’s already notably more popular than the PlayStation VR2 on Steam. It’s also more popular than the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift S. Sony’s PSVR2 was originally launched with exclusive support for the PS5, but an official PC adapter did finally arrive in August 2024.
