The Ryzen 7 9800X3D just launched as the first 9000X3D CPU to hit the market. Every AMD enthusiast is hyped as early reviews have shown that it offers over 20% better gaming performance than Intel’s latest Core Ultra 285K.
However, this isn’t going to be the only next-gen X3D CPU, as AMD is also working on other units, including the 9950X3D, which has appeared in the FactorioBox benchmark database today, showcasing a major improvement over its predecessor.
9950X3D FactorioBox benchmark shows much better performance than the 7950X3D
Someone tested the performance of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D in the video game Factorio, and unsurprisingly, it achieved 665 UPS (updates per second), the highest score recorded so far. For comparison, its predecessor, the 7950X3D, scored between 400 and 458 UPS.

In short, the 9950X3D delivers around 64% better performance than the 7950X3D. Since it’s too early for reviewers to get their hands on a unit, it might be someone from AMD who tested the CPU.
However, it’s important to remember that these benchmarks aren’t reliable enough to reach conclusions. For example, even the 5800X3D outperforms the 7800X3D in Factorio benchmarks despite the latter being a more powerful processor overall. So, these benchmarks only provide a general idea of the performance improvements that we can expect from the 9950X3D over the 7950X3D.
In any case, the Ryzen 9950X3D is expected to offer 16 cores and 32 threads, double that of the 9800X3D but matching the 7950X3D. On top of that, users will be able to overclock the next-gen X3D CPUs, a feature not available on previous models. With the latest 3D V-Cache technology, the 9950X3D is likely to be the most powerful CPU for gaming upon launch. The CPU is currently expected to be announced during CES 2025, and we’ll get to know more about it after the official announcement.
