Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27 for most of the world, but even ahead of launch, reviewers have gotten a hold of the game for some in-depth benchmark testing. The usual graphics card tests filled with different GPUs, resolutions, upscaling methods, and so on, have been published, but we want to turn our attention to CPUs instead. Yet again, AMD’s gaming-focused Ryzen X3D CPUs dominate, but perhaps by more of a margin than you may have first expected.

Requiem runs on the same engine as Monster Hunter Wilds (RE Engine), but Capcom promised it wouldn’t have the same performance issues on PC, and that promise has rung true. The game is pretty well optimized, but if you want to push framerates even higher, a decent CPU comes in handy. AMD’s flagship Ryzen 7 9850X3D is 50% faster than the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K.

Resident Evil Requiem CPU benchmark

German publication PC Games Hardware (PCGH) has tested a whole bunch of processors in the game. Unsurprisingly, AMD’s recently released Ryzen 7 9850X3D is on top (they didn’t test the 9800X3D), followed by a range of X3D chips before we get to two Intel flagships from the past couple of generations – the Core Ultra Series 2 desktop and Intel Core 14th gen.

The graph below refers to a test running on “The lowest possible 16:9 resolution” with no ray tracing or path tracing. Separate benchmarks with those two applied are available, too. PCGH paired each CPU with an RTX 5090, running Windows 11 with resizable BAR and TPM 2.0 enabled.

The 9850X3D is well-known as the best CPU for gaming, arriving at the end of last month essentially as a turbo-charged Ryzen 7 9800X3D, offering the same specs aside from a higher boost clock speed. The test reveals an average FPS of 318.5, while the Intel Core i9-14900KS and Core Ultra 9 285K average 214.1 FPS and 212.2 FPS, respectively. Even the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, AMD’s first X3D processor, launched back in 2022, clears the latest top options from Intel with an average of 230.6 FPS.
