Samsung seems to love releasing new variations of its OLED gaming monitors, including the 1440p OLED G6 (not to be confused with LG’s OLED G6 TV). Last year, Samsung launched a 500Hz version of the monitor (up from 360Hz, which was already up from the 240Hz model). And now, its releasing yet another 240Hz model, but with a cheaper price tag.

The OLED G6 remains one of the best OLED monitors on the market, so cutting down the price tag with a couple of compromises casts a wider net of potential consumers – and may be a reaction to growing number of budget-friendly QD-OLED monitors we’ve seen from brands such AOC, which has introduced several QD-OLED displays into its gaming range.

Samsung Odyssey OLED G61SH is the cheapest OLED G6 model

Do note that from the list above, the two Amazon listings are actually currently on sale. The G60SD and G61SD were originally listed for $899.99 and $799.99, respectively, so the ongoing deals offer a pretty sizeable price drop (up to 22% off) if you’re looking to upgrade right now. Even so, the new 240Hz G61SH model remains the cheapest of the lot, even at its full retail price.

Moving on to the specs, you’ll notice that the new, more affordable G6 still offers many of the same standout specs & features as its more expensive siblings. It’s not without its compromises, though. The refresh rate is the most obvious difference compared to the top 360Hz and 500Hz variants, but the G61SH also features just 400 nits peak brightness, so it won’t pop as much as the more premium models; Samsung says the G60SF offers up to 1,000 nits.

Comparing the two 240Hz models, the $599.99 G61SH also offers fewer ports than the G61SD. There’s just a single HDMI 2.1 port and single DisplayPort 1.4 connection on the cheaper model, no USB-C or USB hub, and a plastic black frame – rather than the premium metal material on the more expensive variants (including the G61SD). It also seems that the $599.99 model lacks a heat pipe for improved cooling. Cutbacks aside, it still offers Pantone Validated for accurate colors out of the box, OLED Safeguard features to extend the lifespan of the panel, and a Glare-Free coating to minimize reflections.
