If you've been looking to upgrade the look of your Steam Deck, then you’ll be pleased to know that eXtremeRate has announced their OLED replacement shell kits will be available for pre-order starting next week. These kits will give Steam Deck OLED users the chance to change the look of their device with vibrant new shells.

This is something original LCD owners have had available to them for a while now. The Steam Deck OLED vs LCD models have a few differences that can affect purpose-fit peripherals such as the shell.

eXtremeRate Steam Deck OLED shell kits announced

One of the most appealing features of the eXtremeRate replacement shell kit is how it lets you completely transform your Steam Deck into something new and unique. Whether you want to show off a basic plain color or go for something more vibrant, there will be multiple options. Right now, it looks like there will be six different colors to choose from, including clear, white, clear atomic purple, clear slate black, clear emerald green, and cherry blossoms pink.

While this is exciting news for OLED Steam Deck owners, it’s worth mentioning that eXtremeRate’s shell kits are already available for those who own the LCD version of the console. There are over 25 designs to choose from at the moment, including transparent black, transparent purple, carbon fiber, and many more.

How much will they cost?

At the moment, eXtremeRate has not discussed the cost of the OLED replacement shell kits. The kits for the LCD model cost between $35.99 and $45.99, and we can expect similar pricing for the OLED kits. The company has also yet to reveal the release date, but for now, we know that pre-orders will go live next week.

In any case, while these shell kits will undoubtedly make your Steam Deck look fantastic, it’s important to note that installing them isn't a simple process. Replacing the original shells and buttons requires taking the device apart, so you will need to be extremely careful during the process, as one wrong move could damage the console. So, if you’re not confident in your ability to do it yourself, it would be better to seek help from someone more experienced to avoid damaging your device.
