The Steam Deck 2 hasn't been announced yet, but we recently ran a poll on our site asking users about their most-wanted upgrade for the next iteration of Valve's handheld, and more than half voted for performance. However, as much as performance improves the handheld experience, customization also plays a key role. We’ve seen plenty of examples of this with the Steam Deck, such as a GoPro mount or a dual-screen upgrade. And we've come across another one that's sure to be a big help for travelers.

The Steam Deck Folio is an upcoming product launching on Kickstarter, and it's essentially a slim, lightweight cover designed to protect your Steam Deck's screen. Created by Andrew Reeves, the Folio is compatible with both the original and OLED Steam Deck and features a durable PU cover with a soft microfiber inner lining. Even when closed, you can still access essential buttons like power and volume, and it includes exhaust and intake openings for proper airflow.

Steam Deck Folio protects more than just the screen

The Folio is pretty simple to use, as it attaches and detaches from the Deck using 3M stick-on, ultra-thin magnets, so there’s no complex installation process. Besides being a great way to protect your handheld’s screen, two more features make the Steam Deck Folio a standout product. First is “Stand Mode,” which lets you flip the cover back to turn it into a stand. The second feature to highlight is its “Stick Locks.”

On the outer cover of the Folio, you’ll find two TPU rubber clamps that lock your thumbsticks in place. You simply twist the thumbstick locks into position, and they help prevent accidental movements. The Steam Deck Folio also works while docked, thanks to cut-outs on top that expose the USB-C port. If you have the Valve Dock or another form-fitting dock, you can simply pull off the cover in half a second and get gaming.

Special price for the first 600 backers

SteamDeck HQ got in touch with the creator, Andrew Reeves, to ask about the pricing and launch date. He revealed that the product will launch on February 25th and will start with a super early bird price of $29. However, this special price is limited to the first 600 backers on the Kickstarter page. At the time of writing, the page only has 9 backers, so you still have a chance to grab that special price. After the first 600, the price will increase to $35 for the next 600 backers and will eventually settle at a $40 MSRP. There will also be a special bundle price of $69 for two units.
